Democritus
Democritus was a Greek philosopher. He proposed that ‘matter’ makes up this world and it is tiny particles, invisible particles. He named the particles atomos. He said that if you cut a piece of aluminum foil into infinitely smaller pieces eventually you would divide the foil into individual aluminum foil. He thought it could not be divided into smaller parts. Nobody believed him but in the seventeenth and eighteenth century it was re examined. It was then proposed that all Matter is composed of tiny particles (atomos or atoms).
