John Dalton
John Dalton concluded that properties of matter are explained in terms of the atom. Atomic theory of Matter is based
upon:
· Each element is composed of extremely small particles called
atoms
· Atoms of a given element are identical, but they differ from
those of any other element.
· Atoms are neither created nor destroyed in any chemical reaction
· A given compound always has the same relative numbers and kinds of atoms
Dalton and other scientists experimented to reveal a composition of atoms. They all thought atoms were hard and round, like extremely tiny marbles or ball bearings.
